Tom Stock and I had a couple of good sightings on an otherwise unremarkable afternoon visit to the US National Arboretum July 14, including Sleepy Orange, White M Hairstreak, and good numbers of Pipevine Swallowtails by the herb garden pergola that supports a couple of large Aristolochia vines.

But by far the best sighting of the day was an unexpected Checkered White visiting lavender flowers in the lavender collection next to the herb garden.
