Dion Skipper, Huntley Meadows in Northern VA

In the approximately 17 minutes of sunshine this afternoon at Huntley Meadows (Alexandria, VA), I followed Matthew O’donnell’s lead in yesterday’s post on the local listserv to the Dion Skippers he’d seen nectaring on swamp milkweed.  Found 4 Dions in the brief sunny interlude, which necessitated hiking out there while it was still drizzling and waiting for a brief sunburst, then some swamp bushwhacking.  But it was a good wait; also had Ocola Skipper, Appalachian Brown, Common Wood Nymph, and the assortment of commoner species Matthew saw yesterday.

Thanks for the tip, Matthew!
