Our planned trip for Saturday to various sites in Carroll County has fallen victim to the extreme heat. We are cancelling for this weekend.
But … we are *rescheduling* for August 13, when we were supposed to go up to Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge. I did some scouting there last weekend, and while there was abundant butterfly life (including silvery checkerspots and broad-winged skippers), the garden is much smaller this year owing to some severe renovation that had to be done to eliminate some inadvertently introduced invasive plants. Consequently, there may not be much in bloom at all by August 13, and there were no other evident nectar sources on the Refuge in any of the places I scouted.
So — join us for the rescheduled Carroll County field trip, organized by Beth Johnson, on August 13. Same time, same place.
And stay cool.
